Go to the art museum's website and print out its hours of operation. Ensure that you will not be there on the day that it will be closing early. Note that most museums do not open on Mondays, so see if this applies to the one you intend to visit.

If possible, obtain a gallery map or floor plan from the site and have it printed. This will come in handy when you plan out your day. It will also help you determine which exhibits are current. Be mindful of the admission fees before you go to your museum of choice. Some places have free admission, but those situated in major cities may charge a fee. Look into the possibility of obtaining a multi-use pass to save money on later visits.
